Jennifer Moses has an excellent piece in the NYTimes about Louisiana artist, Clementine Hunter.
the story could be apocryphal, but when asked why the chicken in her painting was so extraordinarily large Ms. Hunter replied, "if it were a normal sized chicken then it couldn't pull the cart loaded with zinnias!" tho' her paintings abandoned perspective there was always an internally consistant logic.
