someone has abandoned a very old Walker hound by my mailbox. He's very old and arthritic but a good dog. i'm not much of a "dog person" but dogs make a bee-line for me. so do cats, hedgehogs, and pot-bellied pigs. i've a friend who keeps ferrets and before i leave her house we have to search my coat and my bag to be sure i don't have a stow-away.....or two. (i wonder if she wonders why her pets want to go live with me?) i suspect he was abandoned because he's so incredibly old and some asshole just didn't want to deal with it and the inevitable. he's a very sweet old thing and he tries to wag his tail but his bad hips can't take the torque so if he wags too vigorously his hind-legs give way and he falls. when he lies down, he grunts. i have to pick up some dog food that is "age-appropriate" for him....his teeth are in pretty good shape for such an old dog. anyways, it's another mouth to feed. but given his age, not for very long.
