Fear The Duck Overlord!!!
ok, the interwebs are abuzz about an editorial letter from a 14 yr. old named Jasmin Harris who has some definite (if not a wee bit confused) views regarding evolution and homosexuality:
when i first read this, i honestly thought this was "a Poe" (Poe's Law states, "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."). Then, i worried that it might not be "a Poe" and i had to hope that people will not have the typical knee-jerk reaction and recognize that if this is indeed a real letter from a real child then she is a victim. (mum and da need jailtime or a whippin'). there is a serious confusion on display here that PZMyers demonstrates with an annotated transcript over at Pharyngula. Stevyn Colgan has replied with an open-letter to Jasmin that was very compassionate and well-done. [Mr. Colgan deserves the kudos for showing how to gracefully handle things like this one].
now, i cannot lie.....i can understand why this young lady might be afraid of a duck-take-over or Duck-pocalypse......there are some things about ducks that are......a bit scary:
- torturous and eplosively deployable penises (the penis inflates like a car's airbag)
- homosexual necrophiliac rape has been documented in mallards!!!
- ducks are descended from dinosaurs and "dinosaurs eat people."
